Sportsbetting issue in EU
Online gambling is very often associated with an excellent and completely safe entertainment. But it can also be a source of hoaxes. One of the branches of online gaming – sports bets – was lately very scrupulously checked. It turned out that sportsbetting is connected with many serious frauds concerning sport events. Such illegal procedures are even more dangerous than online gambling cheating. Michel Platini, president of the Union of European Football Associations, is convinced that gambling and betting frauds are very common in Europe. According to his opinion, the most important is to prevent such illegal behavior. That is why some new regulations should be implemented in order to decrease the level of gaming and sportsbetting hoaxes.
Platini also claims that the great majority of sportsbetting cheating has its source in Asia. The problem is becoming bigger and bigger. In his opinion strict policy towards gambling and betting would be a solution to that very urgent issue. The Platini’s concerns about betting is based on the fact that the law connected with this branch of gaming as well as about all gambling industry is going to be liberalized. The change in EU regulations may even increase the frequency of gambling and sportsbetting hoaxes.
Platini suggests that the council of Europe should create a legal way of prosecuting illegal gaming and sportsbetting businesses. Currently, there is no such a way. What is more, it is vital to state that sportsbetting should be an activity which respects all sports norms and ethics.
